Beaver Mountain Wedding // Utah Intimate Wedding // Mountain Wedding // Bethany + Kaleb

Beaver Mountain was the perfect backdrop for this wedding! It was such a pleasure to be a part of. Besides working with two people who were so easy going, quick to be friends with, and so open about connecting, it was a sweet intimate wedding I would not have wanted to miss.

Her friends made their ceremony arch which was the talk of the night. Her dress could not have fit her beautiful frame better. One of her best friends was the officiator and had everyone in tears, especially the groom Kaleb who couldn’t have been more tender and sweet about marrying Bethany. Everything was so beautiful, so laid back, and so them. Every detail. I want to let her tell you herself about her wedding experience and about the love between the two of them. She wrote the kindest thing to me when I asked her favorite part of the planning process it was the nicest words from my couple ever! : “Our favorite part was finding AMAZING photographers, having a blast taking engagement photos, seeing how gorgeous they turned out, and being stoked for the wedding pictures! (Not kissing up at all, honestly! The rest of this wedding planning has been SO stressful. Photography has been the smoothest, most fun thing!)”. I absolutely loved getting to know this couple and I hope we always stay friends!

From Bethany:
We met at our local rock climbing gym, spring 2016. Neither of us were planning on climbing that night, but both ended up there anyway. We had never met, despite growing up in the same valley. After introducing ourselves, chatting, and climbing a while, I (Bethany) casually asked him (Kaleb) to dinner. He said yes, opened the car door for me, and paid for the meal. That was the beginning of our beautiful, adventurous, joyful, and loving relationship. 3 years later, on my birthday, while hiking in a remote canyon in Moab, he surprised me with an engagement ring. I, of course, said yes. ♡

Our goal through the planning of this wedding and reception was to provide an atmosphere where everyone in attendance felt comfortable, loved, and happy. All in all, it may shave seemed unstructured to some, but that was the idea. Genuine, organic moments without the distraction of a strict agenda or unnecessary technology. The ceremony itself was "unplugged" so everyone could be truly present as part of our special moment.

The venues we choose are two of our favorite locations where we can be ourselves and detach from the business of everyday life. We wanted those attending to also feel separated from life's worries as we did.
As odd as it seems we didn’t have music for the ceremony. We wanted the moments to flow naturally, without the worry of potential technological difficulties.

Our most valuable piece of advice for making a relationship work: Listen to each other. Recognize your differences, your strengths, your weaknesses, your goals, dreams, aspirations. Notice how together, you create balance between it all.

Blacksmith Fork Canyon // Utah Wedding Photographer // Chelisa + Ben Engagements

This is my sweet beautiful niece. These two have been sweethearts for a LONG LONG time! Chelisa and Ben dated through high school and fell pretty hard for each other. They were best friends. He served a two year mission, then she served a one and a half year service mission, so the waiting to be together felt like a long time for them both. I am so happy they are together now, and I can’t wait to share their wedding photos! Congratulations you two!!

What an amazing connection these two have! Every moment with them was sweet, and so easy. They moved together seamlessly and the love they feel for one another was tangible. He adores her and she is crazy about him. They were so laid back during their shoot and went with whatever I threw at them. We came away with such beautiful images. Today is their wedding day and I couldn’t be more excited to spend it with them!

Morgan Senior

These years seem to go so slowly when you are in it, but then you look back and it’s gone in a flash. No more high school. The friends you made move to new schools, or travel, or change. Everything happens so quickly from there on. The experiences you had during those years will be all you take with you, and hopefully a few really great friends. I once saw a quote - I don’t know who it is by but I liked it…

“We didn’t realize we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun.”

Keep having fun and enjoying life, experiencing all you can, and making a difference in the world!

Lexi Moser Senior 2019

It’s been such a fun couple of weeks photographing these awesome seniors. This was not a thing when I was a senior but I wish it had been. I would have liked to be able to look back and see me during that time, my personality, how I looked, been able to dress up and have fun. It’s such an exciting time in life, new adventures, growing up, experiences that you’ve never had before, moving to new places. You feel so much older and so unencumbered by life. It’s a good place to be.

Brophy-Oneil Engagments // Utah Wedding Photographer // Snowy Engagements

We had so much fun on this snowy engagement session! It wasn’t snowing when we started the session, but all the sudden it dumped on us! I thought they would want to quit shooting, but they just went with it and laughed and we had a good time. I love when my couples are adventurous and up for whatever fun is thrown our way. Excited for their wedding day!! Congratulations you two!

Halie + Spencer Bridals// Tony Grove // Utah Wedding Photographer

I’ve been so far behind on my blogging. It got to busy season, and every spare moment I’ve spent with family, soaking up what little time we have with those we love. When you are losing someone you love, priorities really change. But I’ve photographed some wonderful beautiful couples this year, and I don’t want to not share them, so better late then never!

Letters to Dad...11 years

Dad,

I thought about you today, and for a moment looked at the phone to call you.  I wanted to tell you what I was struggling with right now.  I knew you'd have the right words to say.  And that you'd end them with "but do whatever you want, you are going to anyway."  But at least I wanted to hear what you had to say.  I was mad for a minute dad.  When I realized there would be no answer on the other side of the phone I felt mad.  I'm mad you are gone.  But mostly behind that mad is really really sad.  And missing.  Because sometimes dad.  I'm lonely.  And sometimes dad, I feel really lost.  And you always made me feel like I was home.  It's been a long time since I felt that.

I wonder if you are playing music. Playing your violin, viola, or the flute.  If you watch me make mistake after mistake.  I make so many. If you see when I succeed.  I wonder if you are happy, or if you miss us.  Do you feel frustrated for us?  Sad for us? Do you ever wish you were here? In the quiet moments of our struggles here are you behind us, supporting us, lifting us? I look up at the sky and I wonder when I will feel whole again.

Today is 11 years since you left this world behind. 11 years of missing you. It feels more like a lifetime. If I knew the short years I would get to spend with you, there are some things I would have done differently. A lot differently.

I would have stayed home and not moved out as soon as I could when I turned 18. I would have understood that my time with you was short, and that I would have plenty time away from home later. I would have skipped out on all the time I spent away from home thinking friends and boyfriends were more important.

I would have listened to you more when you talked instead of thinking I knew better. I would have asked you more questions about YOU. And cared what your life looked like through your eyes.

I would have given up time with my friends to go on more trips and date nights with you. I would have spent soooo many more days singing with you.

I would have worked harder to make you more proud of me.

I would have taken naps with you under trees and gone on more Sunday drives with you.

I wouldn’t have fought with you that one time. You know when. I would have just stopped my words from coming out. I would have loved you more.

I would have held you longer that last time I hugged you goodbye.

But with all the things I wish had done different dad, there are so many things I’d never change. All those church girls basketball games you came to watch me play. All my dance competitions you hated coming to but still did, and cheered the loudest even if it embarrassed me in a proud way a little bit. All the times you let me dance on your feet and sang “I was waltzing with my darlin”. That time you told me I couldn’t go to that one party. The only time you told me no. Thanks dad. You knew. The time you told me you told the whole office how proud I made you. The times you took me to the university with you after I begged and begged even though I never let you get your work done. All the bags of skittles you bought me and would bring me home from work. All the rides on the lawn mower while you sang me songs. I’m sure I slowed down the work for you. You never said anything about it. The Sunday walks and every time you told me you loved me.

Dad, it’s going to be ok. We will be ok. But we will never stop missing you. Every day.

Dan Wedding 2018

Absolutely loved this shoot and how stunning the bride looked with her beautiful flower crown! Did you know that in some countries flowers are thought to be a symbol of love, good luck, and prosperity? Some cultures even believe that when a bride wears flowers in her hair she will be blessed with happiness in her home. How perfectly fitting! So happy for this beautiful couple! Wishing you many days filled with the happiest memories!

Khristen + Brady Newswander Birth Story// Utah Birth Story photographer // Birth Stories

We struggled for over 4 years with Secondary Infertility to get Emmett, our third, here. So when we knew it was time for another, we started trying just before he turned one. Fully expecting it to take time again we were surprised when 5 months later, I was pregnant! We were so excited and a little shocked. Unfortunately, 2 weeks later, I started bleeding. After an emotional roller coaster of a week with multiple appointments and tests, it was in fact confirmed a miscarriage. It was a very difficult experience for us, including our older 2 children. It was difficult to explain to them, to help them process, just as difficult as it was for Brady and I. After the D&C, taking some time to grieve and physically heal, and getting the "Ok" from my Doctor, we started trying again…. read more of this sweet story on the blog!

Salt Lake City Wedding // Salt Lake Temple // Salt Lake wedding photographer

It was a rainy wedding day, but that did not stop this cute couple from keeping smiles on their faces.  They weren't going to let a little rain get them down.  They had a sweet intimate wedding at the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, it was a perfect setting for their love story.  Amy and I went to Photo school together at USU, she was always a fun person to be around, and I enjoyed our journey through photography together.  She is amazingly talented, and sees things in such a beautiful way.  I was excited that she asked me to photograph such an important day for her.

Studio Station is a great little studio for an indoor session when things are not so warm outside!  It made for the perfect spot for this darling families photos.  And let's just stop for a moment and check out how amazingly beautiful this mama is!!  Tia always slays when it comes to making my moms, brides, and commercial clients look smokin!  This family was so much fun, their outfits were on point, and they were sooooo good!  I loved all the natural smiles and interactions they gave me. That little guy cracked me up and melted my heart all at the same time!  Seriously a perfect session!  Thanks for trusting me with your memories!

Logan Utah Photographer // Denise Albiston Family // Logan Canyon

I often run into single moms or dads who struggle when it comes to family photo time.  They aren't sure if they need to do them, if they should bother, or if it's just going to feel awkward.  I tell them all that this is the phase of life they are in, so embrace it, document it, it's still you and your children creating memories together.  And I love the sessions.  There is always this special bond between them all, this sacred space they all hold for one another.  It was especially true for these three.  I loved seeing how they interacted together, the fun they had together, and all the sassy-ness they threw around haha.

I met Denise while I was doing shoots at USU when she worked there, and I've loved keeping in touch with her and doing little commercial photo projects for her, I was so excited when she finally booked her family shoot!  They are all gorgeous and so much fun!  She looks like their older sister instead of their mom she's so gorgeous!  So fun to play with you all - thanks for freezing for a good purpose! ;)

Utah Family Photographer // Jami Rayfield Family // Utah

Oh man I can not even tell you how much I love Jami!  I feel like my life was so blessed to be able to have her be a part of it.  She is amazing.  She is kind.  She is good.  She is real.  I just really adore her.  I am always so thankful that our paths crossed accidentally.  It was the perfect accident for my life, and my life is better for it. When you meet a truly good person, you never want to let them out of your life.  This is definitely true if you ever get the chance to be friends with this girl.  Last year she did a lot of my marketing for me, and she was so fun to work with.  Then they moved and she didn't have good internet access at all and couldn't get it in the area she was in so I eventually had to hire someone new, and while I absolutely love my new gal, I also miss working with this amazing human being who has taught me so much by example.  The first birth story I ever did for her was published on Beyond the Wanderlust here - and was such a tender sweet story, you should be sure to check it out!  Love you and your family so much Jami!!!

Heather + Cameron Wedding// Logan Utah Temple // Backyard Wedding

Cameron and Heather met while performing in a play together. It is clear that theater is a love they both share! This couple is so much fun! They had a beautiful Gatsby themed wedding, complete with the bridesmaids rocking the 1920’s inspired look and pearls. So many details you guys!  SO MANY INCREDIBLE DETAILS!

Heather and Cameron are both so funny and kept each other smiling and laughing all day!

The couple got sealed in the Logan Temple, and then had a gorgeous intimate backyard ceremony where they exchanged rings and words of love in front of all their close family and friends.

Surrounded by close friends and family, they spent the evening dancing, laughing, and having a wonderful time! The location was so beautiful and the air smelled of smores the whole night! This family definitely knows how to have a fun time! The brides sister sang a special song for them for their first dance together and the groom even surprised his bride with a special song he wrote and sang for her!

Congrats to such a perfect couple!

These two kiddos were so cute and sweet with each other and also their parents! It gave me all the heart eyes. Their big, fun personalities were so fun to capture from behind the lens.
