We were suppose to be doing a maternity photoshoot when I got a text abt 2 hours before the shoot saying Breanne was headed to the hospital in labor and would I mind changing the shoot to a birth story instead.
I got there when everything was a whirl, they were very close to delivering and the room was a buzz of excitement. Grandmas were there, friends, the room was full and everyone eager to meet the little one.
Right after baby boy was delivered you could tell something wasn't quite right, instead of pinking up, he was getting more and more purple. They only let Breanne hold him for a moment before taking him over and putting him on a c-pap for air. And after trying to get a tube down his throat and not being able to, they rushed him to the NICU, only giving Breanne a moment to reach over and touch him. My heart broke for her watching the tears roll down her cheeks and the fear in her eyes. It as incredibly touching to see how much Derek loved her, and comforted her.
After running some tests in the NICU, and realizing that his condition was more severe then they could handle they decided to take him by life flight to a hospital more capable. They said this condition was really rare and they only see maybe 2 a year. He had some serious abnormalities with his esophagus that made eating impossible and breathing difficult. They let Breanne know and took her down to hold him before he would be loaded onto the helicopter. The grandparents and Derek gave him a blessing and they all had a few minutes to say goodbye and give their love before he was loaded up to go. It was a tender time, with a lot of emotions.
What an amazing journey and what an amazing family this little guy was able to join.
